For past three years the graduating Music Theatre class of 2025 at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts has been working to bring a new Australian musical called Tivoli Lovely to the stage.

Created by renowned Australian writer and performer Eddie Perfect (Beetlejuice The Musical, Strictly Ballroom The Musical), the show is a love letter to the theatrical history of Australia’s Tivoli Circuit, which hosted variety acts from the 1890s to the 1960s.

Tivoli Lovely was commissioned by WAAPA through the Premier Visiting Artist Fund supported by Minderoo Foundation, where world-class performing arts professionals share their skills and experience with WAAPA students.

Just before its international premiere in Perth, we had the chance to see one of the last rehearsals of Tivoli Lovely, with Eddie Perfect – a WAAPA graduate himself – guiding the way behind-the-scenes.
